Golf Etiquette

As we at the PSMGA end our 2009 tournament play for the year, you may be thinking about new and better ways to improve your game in 2010.

While you consider next year's competition, please consider also some new year resolutions. If you're “SQUEAKY CLEAN” on the practices mentioned below, then please review the following comments on golf etiquette.

In the August, 2008 edition of Golf Digest, Arnold Palmer listed his ten rules for GOOD GOLF ETIQUETTE. His first commandment concerned the pace of play. He maintains by playing ready golf his “fivesomes” play in less than 4 HOURS !!!! He recommends that you evaluate your pace of play honestly and often, and if you're consistently one of the slowest in your group, you’re a slow player period. (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE)

He encourages everyone to move quickly enough to stay right behind the group in front of you throughout the round. We at PSMGA support a good pace of play. So PLEASE accept the gentle encouragement to pick up the pace from your fellow golfers as gentle reminders for everyone’s golfing enjoyment.

The following etiquette should be observed during all PSMGA tournaments.  Be careful and make the following practices part of your golf etiquette.

1.   Always play without delay and keep up with the group in front.

2.   Do not talk or create a distraction while someone is teeing off. (Not Sportsmanlike)

3.   Standing too close behind the player teeing off. (Happens quite often)

4.   Moving around while hitter is addressing his ball. (Happens at times)

5.   Driving the cart too close to the green.  (Inexcusable for any player)

6.   Taking too much time looking for a lost ball, 5 minutes max.

7.   Ball Hawking. (You’re here to play golf not hunt for golf balls.)

8.   Stepping on another player’s putting line. (Be aware of everyone’s lie on the green)

RECOMMENDATIONS:

1.     Play ready golf. Do not sit in cart while others are hitting. Make preparations to hit as quickly as possible.

2.    Watch ball flight of other hitters.

3.    Assist others in finding balls, but not more than 5 minutes.

4.    If you sign up to play and you have a reason to cancel, please call the Pecan Hollow Pro Shop – 972-941-7600 as soon as possible.

THANKS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. Above practices were also posted and consent given by Ben Matula, VP of Rules at COSGA. (Chase Oaks Senior Golf Association).
